When I was working third shift at a hotel one night the local taxiowner of Blue Dog came in and we started talking about his new companywhich was just starting out in my town. He mentioned how he had alwayswanted to write a children's book about a police dog who taught kids todo the right things. After he left I started doodling this dogcharacter on a piece of paper. Inspired by what I was drawing I wenthome, fired up Illustrator, and started doodling him in there.
It took me about two weeks until I was finally satisfied with what Ihad before I showed it to the taxi owner. He was delighted and when hesaw the dog he said, "You know, I could actually use this as the logofor my company." And so the 'police dog' became Blue Dog.Unfortunately, I had a falling out with this man and never got paid formy work, but Freeway is out there riding around on the side of all hiscabs now.
